Creativity: A "Peace" of Creative Mandala

by Shia Lynn
Create  your Creative Circle with a "Mandala" by Shia Lynn
Mandalas are fun to create, draw and colour. In my opinion, a Mandala is your inner circle of safety, peace, love and creativity. It is great to draw Mandalas especially after during a stressful or hectic day at work or school.

Sometimes when you find yourself feeling blue or emotional about an incident, drawing or colouring a Mandala would help you have a clear mind thus, allowing you to think things through and maybe even problem solve.

Mandala drawings are unique in its own way. It depends on each individuals on what sort of colours, shapes, design or size used. Many people find themselves being self-conscious when they are drawing anything from birds, to trees, to humans or even landscapes... in truth, deep down inside us, there are no rules nor restrictions when it comes to art. Not a trick up your sleeves, but in order to enjoy creating art is simply being UN-self-conscious when creating.

Many of us tend to compare our art with others; it is a lot easier to point out the flaws in our art but it isn't easy to see beyond the lines and technique used.

So, the next time you are creating art or attempt to create a Mandala, here's few tips you might find useful:

1. Breathing during creating - make sure your breathing is steady...when you breath, you are allowing oxygen in thus, enabling you to think with a clearer mind.

2. Be free - don't worry about which colours look nice or not, just use the first colour that comes to your mind. Likewise with drawing images.

3. Don't compare- comparison is another way of judging yourself be it in a negative or positive manner. Art isn't about comparison, there are no rights or wrongs but all that exist in your own space is just YOU.

4. Reflecting- Once you're done, take a step back and look at your colours and images. Observe every single detail and ask yourself how did you feel when you were colouring that or drawing this.. ask yourself why did you use a certain colour and how does that colour make you feel? You may write it down too (as seen above)

Here's a link for you to view on how you can create Mandalas! With lots of light and love.

Plaster Painting Heals Your Soul

Located at Empire Mall, Subang Jaya; the Plaster Fun House is a peaceful place to be. I did a painting project one evening during my visit and found the staff at the shop helpful in explaining to me on the pricing and in providing me the materials I need. When i arrived, there were parents and children having fun painting together while even couples were locked in deep conversations over their painting. Plaster Fun House is a lovely hang out spot with wholesome painting projects for couples to rekindle!

The are various plaster designs ranging from, Angry Birds to cute animals, angels, signage to feminine ones (as above). Prices are affordable where you can do a simple project from RM10 to above.

Paints, brushes, palettes and container for water are provided. As suggested by the staff, you can even bring your own materials.

Snacking over art!

While customers visit for projects, you can even order a snack or two with a drink- yes it's also a cafe! I personally enjoyed every bit of the moment while i paint and have a drink. Once you've finished your painting, you can have them to varnish it while they pack it in a compact box for you to bring it home with you.

Locate it at Empire Subang Gallery, Level 2 #S-05. http://www.plasterfunhouse.com

Featuring: Crafter, Irene Sin

Everyone has a burning passion to create something unique from the ordinary, to touch the hearts of others. I can understand how it feels when one has that eager drive to craft something appealing. “Just a typical girl” she says, however this girl-next-door has creativity written on her forehead. Irene Sin of One Love Cottage tells how she finds time to begin her journey in the crafting world.

Tell us about yourself before it all started?
Before it all started I'm just a typical girl who goes to the university and attending lecture classes. And I was really super bored and free those days. But now, after I've started this business of mine, my life is no longer dull.

Any significant experiences on why you started your blog-hobby?
I used to make crafts during my university semester's break and I posted it on my personal blog which caught a lot of attention from my fellow friends. And I even used some of the crafts I did such as bags to campus and my fellow friends think that I should try to do business through this hobby of mine as they find that I am talented in it. But that never cross my mind until one fine day which I've finally made up my mind to try out my luck. And that is when I started my online business in January 2010.

Reason for the name chosen?
One Love Cottage is actually my little brother's idea. The blog's name is supposed to be Fairy Cottage but it was unavailable when I signed up on blogger.com. And I insisted on using the "cottage" word because it somehow gave me the crafty feel and so my brother came up with One Love when we both listened to a song named One Time by Justin Bieber which was also our favourite song. Thus, One Love Cottage is then created.

What is the motivation behind your passion?
The motivation behind my passion is the support my family, my loving boyfriend and my lovely friends. They are always there to motivate me when I felt like giving up on my business in the beginning.

Describe your style of craft?
Honestly, I do not know how to define the style of my craft because most of the crafts made by me are made out of customers need and wants. I tried to fulfill their requirements based on the descriptions they gave me. But mostly my crafts are on the cute style.

Which craftwork of yours is your favourite and why?
Oh! There is tons of it but since I have to choose one of it, I would say my previous handmade bags called Miss Owlie because I love owls. It looked pretty cute, in my opinion.

Any source of inspiration you seek from?
I got my inspirations from books, google.com and other crafter blogs.

What kind of services do you offer and where are you based?
Oh, I custom make camera pouch, HP pouch, key chains, HP charms, passport holders, tissue holders and anything you can think of. Up to now, I have received a lot of camera pouch customizations.

Any advice to other crafters out there who shares the same passion and goals as you do?
My advice to them is to have faith in everything you create, believe in your self and most importantly have fun while creating that lovely hand made.

Creativity: Top 10 Creative & Therapeutic Hobbies

by Shia Lynn

Activities like needlework, gardening and baking have been passed down from generations to generations. Today, these activities have turned into hobbies. It is therapeutic to engage one self into these activities because it allows you to get in touch with your inner creativity. I'd like to share the top 10 (most commonly practiced) creative hobbies (for men and/or women). It is important to have a healthy balance lifestyle to maintain a positive and chaotic free mind.

TOP 10:

1. Sewing
- While you may think that its quite a hassle having to create a pattern draft to sew, think up-cycling or reconstructing clothes for your little ones. Up-cycling gives you freedom to explore and create anything you see fit as long as it is wearable or usable. Shirts can be turned into dresses for teens and toddlers (or yourself). Sample

2. Knitting
- Another thrifty way of creating clothes for children, dolls or even gifts for adults.

3. Gardening
- Being close to nature is one of the best ways to kill stress. Did you know that you can recycle used-coffee beans to fertilize your plants? Plus it smells good.

4. Accessory Making
- Pamper yourself, your girl friends or your daughters with your creations. Sample

5. Candle Making
- As therapeutic a hobby can get, you can make candles and supply them as wedding/party favors.

6. Baking
- I tried baking twice, and honestly, i love it! The idea of creating something with results and allowing others to try your food is priceless Sample

7. Painting
- You don't have to be an artist to do so. Painting like drawing is one of the stress buster that gives you the freedom to express your deepest feelings. The idea is to be unconscious about your drawings. Don't plan, just draw. You would instantly feel at ease.

8. Hand-making natural products
- Its like creating your own beauty regime, lots of research involved though, but the  best part is you get to explore with various natural ingredients and learn what is best for your skin and body. Sample

9. Scrap-booking
- I know lots of mommies who enjoy scrapbooking. I do too! You can collect concert tickets, trinkets and such and paste them in your scrapbooks for memories.

10. Clay Making / Pottery  / Sculpture
- Clay Making isn't just great for kids but it is great for adults too. We need to exercise our hand-eye coordination.
